Pushing the hardware to the limit

Ubisoft has offered new details related to the Nintendo Wii version of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, the videogames set to continue the long running Sands of Time series. The game is also set to be released on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the PC, the PlayStation Portable and the Nintendo DS on May 18 in North America and on May 20 in Europe.

The Wii version of the game will push the Nintendo home console to the limit as Ubisoft aims to create a gaming experience, which takes advantage of the motion tracking system that made the Wii so successful while also assuring that the look of the game is adapted to the rather limited power of the gaming device.

This mostly means adapting a more cell-shaded look emphasizing the mystery and mystique of the franchise while making sure that the Prince moves through the environment as smoothly as possible.

Ubisoft is promising that the Nintendo Wii Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands will be about 15 hours long when the main storyline is taken into account and that alternate paths, secret areas and unloackables will be included in order to make the game replayable. The publisher also promises huge fights with big bosses and impressive armies, alongside the familiar experience of acrobatic movements, which made the reputation of the Prince.

The Forgotten Sands will see Ubisoft returning to the familiar Sands of Time universe it abandoned in 2008 with the release of Prince of Persia. The new game will see the Prince move to the kingdom of his brother, where an ancient castle is under assault and where time needs to be manipulated to prevent the catastrophe. It's not clear whether the Prince will adventure solo or whether an Elika-like companion will be introduced early in the experience.
