Ubisoft has confirmed that it plans to launch a new game in the Assassin's Creed series, called Brotherhood, for the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the PC. The game is slated to arrive late in 2010, which suggests a date very close to Christmas, and the development effort is led by the Montreal studio of Ubisoft, with teams in Annecy, Quebec, Bucharest and Singapore also contributing.

Ubisoft has confirmed that Brotherhood is set to focus on multiplayer, both cooperative and competitive. Ezio is now a Master Assassin, one of the most powerful individuals in the world of Renaissance Italy, and he needs to push forward in his fight against the Templars by going to Rome and aiming to actually destroy the knightly order. Despite his abilities, Ezio cannot take on the task alone and will need to draw the entire Brotherhood of Assassins on his side, commanding them as they face off against their mortal enemies.

This means players will be able to take on the role of other characters and work together to achieve their objectives. The backdrop for the action will be the city of Rome, which gives the developers quite a lot of architectural landmarks to model.

Players can also choose to help the Templars by training with Abstergo and then taking out the Assassins. Ubisoft is promising that the new Assassin's Creed videogame will allow gamers to choose from a wide array of yet unnamed characters, with each of them having specific weapons they favor and assassination styles. Unfortunately, Ubisoft has not offered any details related to the actual game modes that Brotherhood will be offering.

Assassin's Creed II managed to sell more than 8 million units since its November 2008 launch. Ever since the beginning of the year, Ubisoft had been talking about aiming to quickly launch a multiplayer installment in the franchise.
