The game is still in development and the Wii U's features aren't complete, Ubisoft says

Rayman Legends became a reality a few days ago as the trailer for the new game from Ubisoft popped up on the web, so the French company has now released a statement, saying that the video shows a game still in development and was just meant to be viewed by employees.

One of Ubisoft's biggest surprises leaked last week when the first trailer for Rayman Legends, the sequel to last year's Rayman Origins, appeared on the web.

The footage showed off not just gameplay but also a unique feature of the Nintendo Wii U that allows players to place toys on its controller and have them appear in the game, just like Activision has been doing with its Skylanders series.

According to Ubisoft, the video was designed just as a demonstration for its employees, despite the fact that it looked very high quality and was clearly designed to promote the game after it was officially announced.

"An internal video showing images of Rayman Origins' sequel has leaked over the Internet," Ubisoft told CVG. "This video was intended as a purely internal demonstrative video, and in NO way represents the final game, the final console or their features."

As you can figure out, while Nintendo will no doubt put a Near Field Communication (NFC) feature into the Wii U, it wants to properly unveil it to the world instead of having it appear in a video for Ubisoft's game.

In terms of Rayman Legends, the company confirms that the creator of the series, Michel Ancel, is in charge of its development.

"This video was destined for internal production teams who often create game prototypes with work in progress development kits. Ubisoft confirms the development of Rayman Legends handled by Michel Ancel and his team in Montpellier," the studio added.

No other details have been offered, but you can expect Ubisoft to officially unveil Rayman Legends soon, probably at E3 2012 in June.
