In spite of all the buzz about Destiny being the fastest-selling new IP of all time, Ubisoft still claims that Watch Dogs has not yet been dethroned and still holds the title as far as Western Europe is concerned.

Publisher Activision stated that Destiny had become the biggest new video game franchise ever launched in gaming history, and Ubisoft is apparently challenging the claim with its own internal data.

According to the company, Watch Dogs still holds the title of best-selling new franchise during its first week in all Western European territories combined.

Activision revealed that Destiny managed to dethrone former record holder Watch Dogs in the United Kingdom, but when it comes to the entirety of Western Europe, Ubisoft's open-world action adventure title still reigns, as Videogamer reports.

Ubisoft claims that its data is based on GFK retail data as of September 14, including all platforms except PC in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Scandinavia, Benelux, Austria and the UK.

The data shows that Watch Dogs sold over 4 million copies during its debut week back in May, setting a new industry-wide record. For the time being, Activision still has to reveal its data, but so far, worldwide, it would seem that Destiny is the clear winner.
