One of the most beloved turn-based strategy games of all times, Heroes of Might & Magic III will be getting a remake, Ubisoft confirmed. Launched back in 1999, the original Heroes of Might & Magic III is by far the most popular game in the series.

The HD version of the game will arrive on PC and tablets on January 29, 2015. It will be playable on both Android and iOS mobile platforms, but it will not support smartphones.

“The most popular Heroes title of all time is back in HD! Fifteen years later, rediscover the epic tale of Queen Catherine Ironfist, as she re-embarks on her critically acclaimed quest to unite her ravaged homeland and re-conquer the kingdom of Erathia. Heroes of Might & Magic III is a turn-based strategy game, originally released in February 1999.”

Ubisoft also announced that fans of the game will be able to purchase Heroes of Might & Magic III HD through Steam, Google Play Store and App Store.

The good news is that Heroes of Might & Magic III HD Edition will also include an online multiplayer lobby, where players will be able to share their experience with the community.

According to Ubisoft, the game will include 7 campaign scenarios, about 50 skirmish maps and a map editor, as well as a local multiplayer mode.

The remake will not include the Armageddon's Blade and The Shadows of Death expansions

This means that the remake will not include the two expansions launched by Ubisoft in 1999 and 2000, respectively, so don't expect to be able to play Armageddon's Blade and The Shadows of Death in HD yet.

Moving on to technical improvements, details are a bit scarce at the moment, but Ubisoft claims the Heroes of Might & Magic III HD Edition will be “a true craftsmanship which offers players updated graphics, with wide screen compatibility.”

Ubisoft hasn't confirmed yet whether the HD Edition of Heroes of Might & Magic III will be developed by one of its studios or it will be outsourced.

If outsourced, then there's a high chance the uPlay requirement for the PC version will be removed if the third-party developer decides against this dreaded form of DRM. Obviously, the Android and iOS versions of the game will not require Uplay.

Also, there are no details on the price, but we believe the game will be up for pre-purchase on Steam as early as next month so we will know more then. Are you ready to re-conquer Erathia?
