Twitter fans wielding an iOS device will be delighted to learn that the folks at TweetUp have ported UberTwitter to the iPhone. UberTwitter is regarded as the number 1 Twitter client in the world. It has made a splash on Blackberry handsets, and is now available for all iOS device owners to download from the iTunes App Store and use for free.

“The number 1 Twitter client in the world comes to iPhone! The popular Blackberry application debutes [sic] on the iPhone with UberView, a new way to view links shared through Twitter,” TweetUp says.

“Additionally, UberTwitter is a full featured Twitter client application to interact with Twitter. com. Users can connect the app with their Twitter account in order to view the posts of the people they follow, see any posts mentioning them, create new posts, send Direct Messages, and search Twitter,” the company’s description reads on the iTunes Store.

UberTwitter also allows users to preview links within the app, either by tapping on the post or by turning the device into landscape mode.

The user interface has been specifically designed so that the content of the link is displayed in a separate pane next to the tweet, as the user taps on the URL.

Currently at version 1.0.2, UberTwitter for iOS can add video to a tweet, and includes some unspecified bug fixes, according to the changelog posted by TweetUp on the UberTwitter App Store page.

Weighing in at exactly 2.0 MB, UberTwitter is English-supported only. It is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and requires iOS 4.0 as the minimum version of Apple’s mobile operating system.

Softpedia readers can immediately download UberTwitter by following the link below. The app is free to download and use on any iOS device, as long as the unit supports Apple’s iOS 4.
