Owners of Windows Phone devices out there can now access another popular service right from their handsets, as the official Uber application is now available for download from the Windows Phone Store.

For those out of the loop, we should note that Uber is a network of private drivers, and that it is already available in more than 40 countries.

Users can easily request a ride right from the mobile application installed on their smartphones, and they will get picked up within minutes. Uber is an on-demand service, which means that users will not need reservations to enjoy it.

“Uber is a technology platform that connects riders with safe, reliable and seamless transportation in cities around the world with the single touch of a button,” a recent post on Nokia Conversations reads.

To get started, users will simply need to download the Uber app on their Windows Phone handsets, after which they will have to register with the service, and they will be good to go.

One of the advantages of using Uber is also the fact they you won’t need to know the address you are at. The application will take advantage of the phone’s GPS capabilities to find your location, and an on-screen map will allow you to mark your pickup point.

As soon as you have chosen your location, you will simply need to select request, and a driver will automatically be en route to you. An estimated ETA will also be provided.

“All that’s left to do is sit back and wait for the driver. Uber will text you when the car arrives. Alternatively, check the map location of the car within the app,” Nokia Conversations also explains.

“Every Uber driver partner is fully insured and background-checked, ensuring you are experiencing the safest ride on the road. Uber provides value at every level and a price that works for everyone’s budget, starting with the more affordable uberX all the way up to the more upscale uberBLACK.”

One other great thing about the service is that it will provide users with a truly cashless experience. As soon as the ride is complete, the payment is handled electronically, and users will see it charged to their registered credit / debit card, and a receipt is automatically emailed to the account on file.

Soon, the application will receive a series of new features, including fare quotes within the app, shareable links with trip map and ETA, and the option to split fares with friends, for a more affordable ride.

Uber is available in the Windows Phone Store for free, compatible with all devices running under Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 8.1.
