It's incredibly fast but isn't it too slim?

Super Talent Technology is an important manufacturer of NAND flash storage solutions. Holding over 200 patents on DRAM and Flash module design and manufacturing processes, Super Talent is one of the world's chief patent holders in memory device categories. Today it has announced the move to create the fastest USB 3.0 flash drive, called Dram Disk.

Holding nothing back (including the company name), Super Talent went on building a real speed demon when it comes to data transfer for a flash drive. With sequential read scores of up to 4041 MB/s and sequential write scores of up to 5388 MB/s, the USB 3.0 Express Dram Disk hopes to shatter all competition by coupling unique built-in software that utilizes your computer's RAM memory to enhance the transfer rate. The software comes with the product.

The USB drive will also transfer the files while the program is being used, cutting down on wait time later. Super Talent wants the Dram Disk to become an indispensable flash drive for "creative professionals whose regime relies upon constantly moving files on-the-go." Dram Disk can easily be used with multiple computers at any time, and thanks to its high transfer speeds, it can work faster than some normal SSDs do.

Only 64GB

However, for a 3.0 USB drive, it only comes in four unimpressive storage sizes: 8GB, 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Claiming that "this USB is a dream for creative professionals running large programs such as Adobe Photoshop, CAD, Maya" when using only 64GB max quickly becomes an issue. That is unless these professionals use Dram Drisk's extreme speeds to fill and empty their drives at the same time.

The fact that it boosts the transfer speeds by buffering the local RAM memory with the data transferred is indeed impressive, a feat by no means easy. But if storage size is a worthy compromise for faster transfer speeds, then some people may move to better offers.

Considering that Integral Memory launched a very convincing dual 3.0/USB-C micro flash, and SanDisk brought in the same category the 128GB UltraFit 3.0 USB, it's hard to see if either the physical size or the actual storage size will do the Dram Disk any justice.
