Lamar Alexander, a Republican Senator in the United States, contributed to the current debate about violent video games and real-world crime by saying that he believes virtual experiences represent a bigger long-term problem than guns.

Speaking to MSNBC about the measures that should be taken to control access to weapons, he stated, “video games is [sic] a bigger problem than guns, because video games affect people.”

After news outlets implied that the shooter in the Sandy Hook incident was a fan of both Call of Duty and Dynasty Warriors, a number of politicians have sought to blame video games for his actions.

At the moment, no peer-reviewed studies have established a causal link between video games and real-world aggression and President Barack Obama has signed an executive order that will authorize Congress to fund research at the Center for Disease Control.
