The website for the United States of the world-renowned computer hardware manufacturer Plextor has been taken over by a group of hackers identifying themselves as CoMoDo (unrelated to the US-based provider of software and SSL digital certificates).

The group, which appears to have entered the scene only recently, plastered images, a message and a YouTube video on every page of Plextor Americas, a website dedicated to firmware downloads, news and support relating to the company’s SSD products.

At the moment, there is no access to the original content of the website and every page shows the images and message from the hackers:

“You'll demolished ! filthy bloodsuckers.! America , Israel!!infamous America,, infamous Israel. The CYBER-WAR will be appeared all the Countries which not respecting Islam. Islamic Hacker!!! islamic army coming.”

Another string of text is in Turkish, which, run through Google’s translation service reads, “Persecution or condone cruelty sentencing in Virtual World in driving shield we would be in the neck !!” The original is “Zulme goz yuman veya zulumle Hukum surmeye kalkanda Sanal Alemde biz ensesinde Olacagiz!!”

The hacked website also includes a YouTube clip, with a reduced video window which makes it almost unnoticeable; it points to this video.

There aren’t too many details about the group or why they chose Plextor Americas as a target. A link to a Facebook page shows that the CoMoDo Islamic hackers did not have too much public social networking activity, their timeline offering only details about accepted friend requests and the modification of the profile photo.

[UPDATE]: We reached to Plextor Europe and company officials told us that the incident is currently being investigated.

[UPDATE 2, August 8]: Plextor has regained control over its website and the original content can now be accessed.
