Walmart put the tablet back on sale, without check it

Purchasing budget tablets for your kid or to an elderly member of the family usually seems like a good idea, until it’s not.

Sure, disposable tablets of the kind you can buy at Walmart seem like a good way to solve a few problems around the house like keeping your kid from clutching your very expensive iPad.

Couple buys tablet for their kid, find adult content on it

Anyway, a couple in the US went out to Walmart to buy a kiddie tablet for their three-year-old (quite a young age to start using a tablet, if you ask us).

The first one they got turned out to have a defect, so the parents took it out to their local Walmart shop in New Jersey and got another one.

It wasn't long afterwards that the couple got home and gave the slate to their son that the kid discovered eight adult videos and a bunch of gambling apps.

The tablet they purchased didn't come straight out of a box and was probably returned by an unhappy customer.

So what happened here was that the previous owner didn't wipe off the content that was downloaded on the tablet before taking it back at Walmart.

The Walmart staff didn't bother to check the tablet or perform a wipe either. So the adult content-riddled device easily made its way into the hands of a child.

The parents, Nicole Barrett and Christopher Leusner were furious and immediately called the store to ask for a refund or an upgrade.

However, the Walmart manager seemed uninterested to help and refuse to award any kind of compensation to the family, well until the press stepped in (via Fox 29 News).

The parents received a full refund

Since then, the parents have been approached by the Walmart representatives and offered a free refund, as well as a tablet upgrade free of charge.

So next time you want to purchase a budget tablet, be careful to check it out before handing it out to you kid.

Or you might want to actually invest a few extra bucks and get something like the new Fire HD Kids Edition, a tablet which has been specifically designed for children.

The tab comes with parental controls, age-appropriate software and 1-year subscription to Amazon FreeTime Unlimited (which is a library of games, books and video). On top of that, you’ll get a 2-year warranty. And all this for the price of $149 / €116, which you have to admit it’s pretty decent.
