Ohio-based FirstEnergy has recently announced that it will try to green up its ways. Thus, it will talk to specialists and try to figure out what it can do to cut down on the amount of carbon emissions it annually produces.

Furthermore, it will look into the possibility of meeting President Barack Obama's goal to cut carbon emissions by as much as 80% by the year 2050, Environmental Leader reports.

The same source tells us that, for the time being, this company is considered to be the eighth biggest emitter of greenhouse gases in the United States. Or at least this is the position that the Greenhouse 100 index has “awarded” it with.

Hence, environmentalists are bound to welcome the news that FirstEnergy has finally decided to improve on its ecological footprint.

What's interesting is that it is shareholders who must be thanked for the company's agreeing to reduce its carbon emissions. Thus, it would appear that FirstEnergy only announced that it would try to go green after shareholders demanded that it do so.
