UKIE, who is the trade body representing the video game industry in the United Kingdom, has announced that boxed game sales have declined by only 7 percent during 2011, reaching 1,42 billion British Pounds, which is about 2.2 billion dollars.

This was better than the UKIE predicted at the beginning of the year.

Revenue from retail PC gaming and accessories was down by 17 percent when compared to 2010 while sales linked to the Xbox 360 and the new Nintendo 3DS have increased.

Motion control also seems to have caught on in the United Kingdom during 2011, with both accessory and games sales increasing by 6 and 11 percent.

Andy Payne, who is the leader of the United Kingdom, stated, “In a year when overall consumer spending was down, 2011 proved to be a better than expected year for the UK’s boxed-product games market. Helped by the launch of many top quality titles, particularly in quarter four, total software sales of £1.42 billion was better than many predicted.”
