The British Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) has refused to take part in the European Parliament’s hearing regarding the recent Belgacom hack.

Recent Edward Snowden leaks have revealed that the GCHQ is responsible for the cyberattack on Belgacom, Belgium’s largest telecoms company.

“Civil Liberties Committee MEPs expressed their regret on Thursday that the British Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) had declined their invitation to take part in a hearing on the alleged hacking of Belgian telecoms firm Belgacom's servers,” the European Parliament noted.

“Belgacom's top managers would not confirm or deny media reports that UK intelligence services were behind the attack.”

Belgacom representatives say they’re still investigating the incident and claim that they don't know who is behind the hack attack.

Belgian officials have noted that another country is most likely responsible for the espionage operation.
