Today, wireless carrier EE fired up the first 4G LTE network in the UK, providing users with enhanced data transfer speeds when compared to what was available for them on 3G networks.

The fast wireless services are now available for both consumers and business users to enjoy in 11 cities in the country.

At the same time, the company announced the availability of over 700 EE stores around the country, which marks one of the fastest transformations in the UK retail history.

“Today is a landmark day for our company, the UK mobile industry and, most importantly, the country’s businesses and consumers,” Olaf Swantee, CEO at EE, said.

“But this is just the start as our 4G network will continue to grow stronger and wider by the day. We’re investing £1.5 billion in our network to be the first company to offer mobile 4G in the UK, alongside the biggest 3G network.”

EE’s 4G service was made available today in Bristol, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Sheffield and Southampton, with more cities expected to receive it in the not too distant future.

Some of the main benefits that EE’s LTE network can deliver include fast internet browsing while on the go, quick download of large email attachments, access to live TV on the move, fast download of high-definition movies, the possibility to play live multiplayer games on the go, and more.

Users who would like to try out the new 4GEE service should know that prices for it start at £36 a month for 500MB of data, and that they go up to £56 for 8GB.

With the new 4G LTE service, EE promises data speeds that are up to five times faster than those available on 3G services in the country.

EE users will have at their disposal a wide range of handsets that provide support for the carrier’s new service, including the HTC One XL, Huawei Ascend P1 LTE, Samsung Galaxy S III LTE, Nokia’s Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, and the new Apple iPhone 5. Other devices will also be put up for sale at the carrier.
