The product is quite expensive and will start shipping in the region in July

LG's 55-inch OLED HDTV may already be shipping in South Korea, the company's so-called home market, but that doesn't go for the rest of the world.

Indeed, LG is only now setting up a supply chain in the United Kingdom.

The 55EM970V, as the ultrathin display is otherwise called, will start shipping at some point in July 2013.

Pre-orders can already be placed though, through Harrods. The price is of £9,999, which goes to show that exchange rates really don't matter one bit (the price of the panel in other regions is $10,000 / €7,500-€10,000).

"We are proud to be the first in the world to offer consumers a big screen OLED TV," said Brian Na, president of LG Electronics UK.

Obviously, not many people will buy it at that price, although that is subject to interpretation. In South Korea, at least 100 pre-orders have been made in mid-February, so the number may be higher in the UK.
