Users complain of lack of Flash support in the first Ice Cream Sandwich handset

Mobile phone users in the UK have had the chance to purchase the new Galaxy Nexus smartphone for a couple of days now, and the first issues with the device have already started to emerge.

Apparently, some handsets out there have been hit by issues with the volume controller, which tends to dim the sound level at certain times all on its own.

More than a single user reported such a problem, though it's uncertain at the moment on what exactly triggers the reaction.

In a thread over at xda-developers, users talk about this so-called “Self Aware Volume Ghost” issue that results in the phone turning the volume down for no apparent reason.

“This morning the volume went down on its down. I actually saw the volume bar appear and decrease, as if I was pushing down on the rocker. It happened twice. Both times I was hammering the phone so perhaps it's related to RAM,” one user notes, according to Pocket-lint.

Some other issues that were reported involved a Galaxy Nexus model that did not land in user's hands clean as expected, but with a series of settings and software on it that appear to have been put on it for development purposes.

Apparently, users are also complaining about the lack of Adobe Flash on the new device, though this is not an issue per sei, but more of a decision coming from Adobe. For the time being, Ice Cream Sandwich will remain out of the Flash garden.

“Flash hasn’t been released for ICS yet so as far as we know, Adobe will support Flash for ICS,” is what Google had to say on the matter.

Pocket-lint also notes that wireless carrier Vodafone does not seem to be ready for making the new mobile phone available for its customers as of yet, which might suggest that there could indeed be some issues that need be solved.

“We're continuing to test the GALAXY Nexus software to ensure our customers get the best possible experience of the device. We'll provide concrete details on availability once the testing process has been successfully completed,” the operator reportedly stated.

However, Phones4U, the retailer that kicked off Galaxy Nexus sales in the UK on November 17th, claims that no issues with the device have been reported to their service locations as of yet. Other carriers that launched the handset make similar claims.
