As soon as the world learned that the US National Security Agency was spying on people, individuals from all over the world have started to wonder if their own government is not doing the same.

According to The Independent, UK’s Foreign Secretary William Hague has neither confirmed nor denied that the British government has been aware of the US’s PRISM program. However, he says he’s not surprised.

On the other hand, he says the idea that the UK Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) is cooperating with the NSA on trying to find a way to spy on citizens is “nonsense.”

Hague says that law-abiding citizens should not be concerned at all. He has insisted that only spies, criminals and terrorists should be afraid.

The official will appear today before the House of Commons to address the concerns regarding PRISM.

US President Barack Obama has also defended PRISM, arguing that it doesn’t target US citizens or people living in the United States.
