In case you haven't noticed from the news, let me tell you this - The United Kingdom is one of the countries with a lot of problems regarding cyber-security. But now, they have finally done something against Internet fraud. Way to
go!
Visa as well as MasterCard have released a new type of credit cards that make shopping online a lot safer. This is great, at least one end is secure now. All that people need to do now is sign up "Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode "and they will get the new cards that are bound to secure online paying systems.
So, how does this new thing work? After signing up, you get a certain password that they can use when paying on the web. Let's hope they have no keyloggers on their PC, otherwise this is useless. SO if you do get such a card, don't dream you are safe yet. Watch out for trojans and spyware. Get security software on your machine, now!
Home Office Minister Vernon Coaker said: "Shopping online is convenient for consumers and retailers alike, but although the Internet offers valuable opportunities for law abiding citizens it also presents opportunities for fraudsters. The key to tackling online fraud is prevention, which is why the Government supports industry initiatives such as Verified by Visa and Mastercard SecureCode, which are designed to make online transactions even more secure. I am pleased to see the industry introducing such measures and urge cardholders to sign up to these protective schemes."
So, what does this new system give you? Well, for one thing, you get greater protection against the unauthorized use of your card. The second thing is hassle-free service that fits neatly into the familiar online buying process. And the best part of it all is the fact that this doesn't need you to install any additional software at all. However, a new measure will be installed on the sites, so that you will have where to enter that password, but you need nothing more on you PC.
