Four days into the release of the new iPhone 3G and thousands of UK handset owners still can't place calls, or use the hefty new features brought by iPhone 2.0 software, the Telegraph is reporting. Disappointed O2 and Carphone Warehouse customers claim that support staffers from both carriers, as well as from Apple, are not taking the necessary steps to at least inform them properly of the situation.
Nicholas Savage posted a complaint on a website called "Carphone Warehouse's iPhone Activation Cock-up." Here's what he wrote,
according to the
Telegraph: "Good to know I'm not alone, sharing this nightmare with several hundred (at least) other people. I want the phone activated now, some compensation for line rental would be good as would an iTunes voucher for the hassle. I also complained to Apple as it's their name been [sic] dragged through the mud with this debacle. I suggest we all write to Apple to complain."
Guy Armstrong is yet another disappointed iPhone 3G buyer. As the seller of his iPhone and contract, the man claims Carphone Warehouse "had a responsibility to give [him] a satisfactory experience using [his] product." He added that the company "should be ashamed of keeping their customers in the dark over such a transparent and simple matter. A simple press release would suffice," he noted. "The least I would expect would be an automated email, yet I have received nothing except mixed messages and fabrications from ill-prepared or uninterested support staff, despite many attempts at recovering the situation," Armstrong's post reads.
Carphone Warehouse hasn't remained silent on the matter, although it hasn't done much to remedy it either. A company spokesperson claimed in a statement that "a tiny percentage" of its customers were still waiting for their SIM cards to be activated, as per the Telegraph. "The vast majority of our customers are able to use their phones and we are confident that everyone will be connected by this afternoon," he said.
O2, UK's most popular mobile service operator, also claims that "the vast majority of customers who purchased the iPhone 3G on Friday have had their account activated successfully." The company added: "We are aware that some customers are still waiting for their SIM card to be activated and apologize for this continued inconvenience. We are working as quickly as possible to resolve this issue and activate these remaining accounts."
