Rockstar's
Red Dead Redemption topped this week's UK all-format chart, being the second all-format win this year for its publisher, Take Two Interactive. Around 65 percent of these sales were on the Xbox 360, making it the biggest 360-led title this year. The PlayStation 3's 35 percent may be attributed to some of the stock shortages on the launch day, but experts refrain from any speculation on this subject.
These sales give Red Dead Redemption the 11th spot in a list of best-ever weekly sales in the UK chart. It has dethroned EA Sports' 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa and Ubisoft's highly successful Just Dance. The chart also reports the Nintendo's Wii Fit Plus is still selling well, actually climbing one place in the chart this week to number four.
Split/Second: Velocity, published by Disney Interactive, and Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, published by Ubisoft, the other two big debuts this week, fared fairly well, with the former starting at number five and the latter at number nine. Disney's racer is also 360-led, as a number of 56 percent of sales were on Microsoft's home console. ModNation Racers, Sony's exclusive racing game for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable, debuted only at number ten.
Red Dead Redemption is Rockstar San Diego's latest creation and it is an open-world Western action adventure. The story revolves around an ex-outlaw that is threatened with his family's life by government officials to go to the far reaches of the American frontier to capture his ex-gang members. The player is free to roam the game's environment and interact with it in many ways, much like in the developer's last effort, Grand Theft Auto 4. A multiplayer component that allows 16 players to engage in various types of modes is included in this new offering. The graphics are powered by the RAGE engine, the title runs at 720p and is available now for Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3.
