A new study reveals

A new report powered by the Office of Communications revealed that Britons are the consumers who spend more time connected to social networks that any other Europeans. The report compared the United Kingdom with other European countries including France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Spain. In addition, Japan, Canada and the US were also included in the study. According to the findings, 4 in 10 UK adults admitted they were visiting social networking websites every once in a while. "The UK adults who visit the sites spend an average of 5.3 hours each month on them and return to them an average 23 times in the month", the report reads.

And this was obviously caused by an increase in broadband connections, as the report revealed that more than a half of households were connected to the web at the end of 2006. This puts the United Kingdom ahead of the US for the first time, it is added in the study.

The Internet audience is leaded by women in both US and UK, as 52 percent of the Americans connected to the web are women, whereas half of the Britons are men. However, there's an exception: "in the18-34 age group where women spend more time online than men (57 per cent compared with 43 per cent)", Ofcom wrote in the research.

Now, enough with the statistics, let's get back to the social networks. Facebook and other similar technologies exploded when it came to the number of users registered for new accounts. At the time of signing a deal with Microsoft, Facebook's representatives even said that their social network attracted approximately 250,000 new members every day. And just think that there are many other social networks available out there, most of them with millions of users from all over the world. Just think at MySpace, Bebo or Hi5.
