INTERNET LIFE

UK - a Nation of Speed-Hungry Broadband Users

- According to a new report

By: Bogdan Popa, Security and Search Engines Editor

People like broadband connections for the simple reason that they're faster than other types of connections and very
often, they're quite cheap. However, a broadband connection allows users to do lots of web activities which would be impossible without a high-speed connection, including here playing games online, downloading movies or music. Although we all like broadband Internet connections, it seems like Britons are quite addicted to them, a recently conducted study revealed.

The research made by Top 10 Broadband, which provides free broadband connections comparison, was based on more than 90,000 speed tests conducted on its websites in March. And according to the findings, Britons are mostly concerned about the speed of their connection since users with high download and upload speeds rated their providers with five out of five stars. Obviously, slower connections owners rated their broadband providers with less stars which does nothing more than to underline the above statement.

According to the report, O2 received the highest ratings and recorded an average speed of 6.41Mb while Be and Virgin Media came the second. The average speed of a UK broadband connection was 3.18Mb "despite this fact most ISPs advertise speeds of up to 8Mb," as Top 10 Broadband mentioned.

"This report sends an indisputable message to broadband providers to speed up or face the wrath of disappointed customers. BT’s planned infrastructure upgrade, which will provide super-fast ADSL2+ download speeds across the UK, starting at the end of the month cannot come soon enough," Jessica McArdle of Top 10 Broadband commented.

Internet connections are a must have these days when most information tends to become available online and accessible via a simple URL. And that's why broadband connections evolve in the entire world, reaching more and more users who simply want to check their email, download files or play online without the frustration of a slow connection.
