It was to be expected that, in the aftermath of Russia's Chelyabinsk region being hit by a meteorite, several groups of people would go through the trouble of piecing together various conspiracy theories.

While one Russian politician claimed that the meteorite was in fact a weapon test carried out by the US, others maintain that the meteorite was in fact a space rock, and that what saved the Russian people from utter destruction was a gang of people-loving aliens. Sources say that those who support this second conspiracy theory are nothing if not convinced that a small object seen flying around the meteorite was in fact an UFO whose crew did their best in destroying the space rock.

“At first, we also believed that the Chelyabinsk meteorite was just an ordinary meteorite, a cosmic body,” argued Alexander Komanev, currently working as a coordinator for the Russian UFO community in Yekaterinburg.

“But on at least three films of the space rock you can see how an object catches the meteorite,” he went on to add.

It goes without saying that these claims concerning the aliens' rushing to the Russian people's aid are frowned upon (and even poked fun at) by trained scientists. Still, reading about such theories seems like a good enough way to pass the time.
