UEFA has gotten sick and tired with racial insults and diving inside the game of football. While the first raised some interesting issues for some time now, the latter became one of UEFA's top priorities after this year's World Cup. Cristiano Ronaldo was the example most of the football experts used to show that a football with "divers" could set a dangerous precedent in terms of cheating.
And the European body has set up a brand new set of rules, concerning both racist gestures and diving. From now on, the European clubs will have to be very careful with the way they act, same as their footballers and fans.
Just a few major changes UEFA decided to make starting the 2006/07 football season:
All players who make racist remarks or discriminate their opponents related to their color, race, religion or ethnic origin are subject to a 5-match ban by the UEFA.
If any club should make such racist and discriminatory remarks towards their opponents, they will also receive a minimum of 19.000 Swiss francs, while UEFA will hand down proper punishments, according to their level of seriousness.
If any player is caught on the video camera or by the referee (live) to be diving, he will not be eliminated from the game, but will receive a 2-match ban.
If a team received more than 5 yellow cards in only one game, the club may be punished for "improper conduct of a team". The bans will go down accordingly.
