Epic Games’ Beta release of a new and improved version of its Unreal Development Kit (UDK) that works on Mac OS X was possible thanks to Virtual Programming, Ltd., which calls itself “the key development partner that worked with Epic Games to make it happen.”

Epic’s Unreal Engine is known for its stunning graphics and scalability across platforms. It has multi-core processor support, and even some optimizations for Apple’s iOS mobile operating system.

VP hit its mailing list with an announcement that UDK on Mac will enable publishers to bring a slew of games powered by Unreal Engine 3.

They say they were the “key development partner” that got Epic to add Mac support to the development kit.

"This is a significant milestone in Mac gaming, and we're very proud to be part of it," said Virtual Programming CEO Mark Hinton. "Mac support for the UDK opens whole new worlds for Mac gamers, and we're looking forward to helping developers and publishers bring their UE3-powered games to the platform."

Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games, confirms that the makers of Unreal Tournament have complete faith in VP: "We trust the engineering resources at Virtual Programming, especially when it comes to the Mac platform," said Rein.

“Virtual Programming helped us with launching Mac support for the Unreal Development Kit, the free edition of Unreal Engine 3. Any UE3 developer in need of assistance bringing games to Mac OS X would be well-served to chat with them," he added,

Virtual Programming added that it will strive to see an even more improved UDK on the Mac, by continuing to work closely with the people at Epic.

They also want all interested developers and publishers to port their UE3-based titles to OS X, or even publish them through the Deliver2Mac digital download service, according to the announcement.
