The mobile browser has managed to dethrone Opera in this market

UC Browser, the mobile navigation application from UCWeb, is now the leading mobile browser in India, overtaking Opera, the latest reports on the matter suggest.

The application is now enjoying almost 30 percent market share in the local market, up from 21.7 percent it accounted for in July last year.

Furthermore, it appears that the browser in becoming increasingly popular among Android users in the country, with a growth of 117 percent registered between December 2012 and June 2013.

However, UC Browser is available on other mobile operating systems out there as well, including iOS, Windows Phone, and Java. In fact, UC Browser for Java is one of the most used mobile browsers on feature phones out there.

“India, with its large number of mobile internet users, has become an attractive market for mobile internet companies. UC Browser has now become the No.1 mobile browser in terms of market share,” UCWeb announced.

“According to statistics from StatCounter, the market share of UC Browser in India increased from 21.7% to nearly 30% from July 2012 to July 2013. From December 2012 to June 2013, active users of UC Browser on Android has increased by 117% in India.”

According to UCWeb, most of the Android UC Browser users in India have a Samsung handset, with 16 out of 20 devices on which the app is loaded coming from this maker. However, brands such as Sony, HTC, and LG are also popular among Android users in India.

UCWeb has also unveiled the fact that Facebook is the most popular website that its Android users access from their phones.

“Facebook is the most popular website by monthly page views. Over 60% of total page views on Android are from Facebook. This is followed by Google Search, which gets 7% of the total page views,” the company said.

Furthermore, the company notes that 29 percent of the traffic registered on UC Browser for Android in India comes from download sites, and that 24 percent of it comes from video sites.
