UC Browser for Android, one of the most the popular mobile applications on Google’s mobile operating system, will bring along some appealing new features to users as soon as version 9.2 arrives, in a matter of weeks, namely support for plugins.

The company has already included support for these apps in the UC Browser 9.1, though only for testing purposes, and plans on making it widely available as soon as the next major release of the software is out.

To be more precise, UCWeb came up with a development platform for those interested in building for its browser, called UC+ Open Platform, and focused on three different areas, namely plugins, HTML5 Web apps, and application bookmarks.

As NTW explains, the platform provides support for bi-directional communication between the UC Browser and Android’s system services.

The UC Browser 9.2 for Android release, which is expected to arrive in a matter of days in Chinese, and in a few weeks in English, will make the latest open platform framework from the company available to the public, it seems.

Developers of some popular applications out there have already built such pieces of software for the browser, including QVOD player and Camera360, technode reports.

Users interested in installing said plugins will be able to search for them through a dedicated panel in UC Browser. Adding these add-ons to the browser will offer features such as sharing to social networks, webpage translation, augmented reality, voice control, and more.

Developers will be able to publish their creations through the UC WebApp Center, which has been launched back in 2011. The company’s WebApp store has over 47 million monthly active users, and more than 1,500 apps in 20 categories.

As of last year, UC Browser has over 400 million users worldwide, though the browser is available on other mobile operating systems out there, including Java, BlackBerry, Symbian, iOS, and Windows Phone.
