Nowadays, there are a lot of technologies that allow us to search for all kinds of information, no matter if it concerns websites, jobs, maps, schools, blogs or news. Because the rivalry between the companies that are currently providing search solutions is continuously increasing, their employees are working hardly to improve the existing products or even to create new products that can represent an advantage to the company. At this time, the most known rivalry is Google - Yahoo, a competition that produces search solutions with improved performance.

Google owns a lot of services that helps us search for all kinds of stuff on the internet, including blog posts, videos, music or books. Besides all these functions, the search giant also enables us to search for universities, a special feature that provides useful information about U.S. universities.

Because Yahoo is the most powerful rival for Google, the giant portal decided that it's the perfect time to release a similar solution but, at the first sight, more detailed and well-developed.

School Search is a new feature presented by Yahoo that can provide you all the information you need to know about a specific school located in the U.S. Besides the location on the map, School Search also presents the address, telephone number, level and some parent reviews that can help you decide if the school is good enough for your child.

"Yahoo Real Estate has introduced a new Schools Search service that lets you search for U.S. schools by city and state or zip code. Results are plotted on a map, and you can sort by school district, distance from a specific location, grade level, or school type (public, private, charter). You can also plot nearby grocery stores, parks, restaurants and gas stations on the map. Yahoo built the service in partnership with not-for-profit GreatSchools.net. Detail pages for each school include facts such as enrollment numbers, student to teacher ratio, test score data and graphs and so on. Also included are reviews from parents who have had kids attending the school," Danny Sullivan from Search Engine Land said about the service.
