U.S. Cellular is a carrier set to expand its mobile phone lineup as much as it can, and it seems that it praises a lot those handsets running under Google's Android operating system. Previously, the company announced plans to bring the high-end HTC Desire to the US market, something that should happen during summer, and now it confirmed plans for another Android-based device, the Samsung Acclaim, which should land exclusively at the wireless operator sometime in July.

The announcement regarding the upcoming launch of Samsung Acclaim comes from the operator's Facebook page, where users can read the following: “Android update! Kudos to the mobile sleuths out there who guessed that the Samsung R880 is an Android device. It's called the Acclaim and features a full QWERTY keyboard, Android 2.1 and a 3.2" HVGA screen. Look for it in stores around July, once we're sure it's ready for prime time. Stay tuned here for more exclusive Android updates!”

According to some of the latest reports around the Internet, the Samsung Acclaim should arrive at U.S. Cellular as a mid-range Android phone. For what it's worth, the Android 2.1 operating system and the 3.2-inch touchscreen display boasting an HVGA resolution sound pretty appealing, not to mention that QWERTY keyboard it includes, and the device should enjoy increased traction on the market when it arrives at the carrier.

There are a wide range of carriers around the world committing to the Android OS, and U.S. Cellular seems to be one of them, even if it didn't catch the first train. With the newly announced Samsung Acclaim and with the high-end HTC Desire added to its lineup, the operator's customers will be able to choose from Android phones meant to fit all their needs. July is not that far into the future and, with specific details on the new Samsung phone set to arrive closer to launch, you should check back with this space to learn more info on the matter.
