On Thursday, mobile phone carrier U.S. Cellular announced plans to launch a wide range of new devices on its airwaves during the ongoing year. Among them, the carrier mentioned the Samsung Acclaim and HTC Desire, both powered by Google's Android OS, as well as the BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry 9670, the latter being described as “a BlackBerry flip smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard.” Other devices should also arrive at the carrier before 2010 is over.

According to the wireless carrier, the Samsung Acclaim should become available for purchase for its users on July 9, while the HTC Desire is set for release in early August. We already knew that these two Android smartphones are on their way to US Cellular, so this does not come as a surprise. However, what we didn't know was that the company would also include a new “highly-anticipated Samsung device”powered by Android to its offering, along with an LG device with a sliding QWERTY. Both phones should arrive in stores in October.

“We're excited about everything these Android-powered devices will bring to our customers,” said Edward Perez, vice president of marketing and sales operations for U.S. Cellular. “They give customers quick and easy access to thousands of applications, so each device can be completely unique and mirror their personal tastes and lifestyles. The phones will be a great complement to the popular BlackBerry and Windows Mobile devices that already anchor our smartphone line.”

In addition to the four new Android phones, the wireless services provider should launch two new BlackBerry devices in 2010, including the BlackBerry Bold, set for an early August release, and the said "BlackBerry flip smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard", which would arrive later during the ongoing year, and which seems to be none other than the rumored BlackBerry 9670. Other handsets are also planned, such as the LG Banter Touch, a dark purple QWERTY Motorola device, and a messaging phone from Samsung (with a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard).

“We've always believed that our customers deserve a wide selection of phones that fit their individual needs,” said Perez. “We hope our customers are as excited as we are about what we have coming up between now and the end of the year.”
