During the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June, Ubisoft announced that the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood multiplayer beta would take place only on the PlayStation 3. More details about this recently have been made available by the company. Apparently, only North American customers who pre-order the PlayStation 3 version from GameStop will get access to the game testing event.

The beta is meant to be a final stress test for the online capabilities of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood and will allow players to get a glimpse of the multiplayer content that will arrive when the title launches on the 16th of November 2010. The testing will commence on the 13th of September and will have a limited number of spots, so the GameStop pre-order offer will be available on a first come, first served basis. Those who have already reserved their copy of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood at GameStop will be able to get their beta key from the 9th of August onward.

Ubisoft has boasted that the multiplayer component of Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is an innovation in the genre, sporting a new kind of online experience. The players fill in the shoes of various Templars who want to learn the tricks of the Assassins by training using the Animus. They take the role of Assassins and try to take each other out through guile and stealth. Ubisoft plans to include multiplayer in each Assassin's Creed title to come.

The single player portion of Brotherhood continues the story of Ezio Auditore, as he travels to Rome to further hinder the Templar threat. The developers have said that Rome itself is a much larger environment that what they have made available in Assassin's Creed II and that despite the short development cycle of the game players will experience a full fledged triple-A release. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is bound for the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
