The release might see some success, since for the time being there are no plans to port the real thing to the Wii U

In spite of its presence on pretty much every platform imaginable, Minecraft isn't heading to the Nintendo Wii U any time soon, an issue which developer Nexis Games seeks to correct, more or less.

Nexis Games is the studio behind BrickBlast U and The Dance of the Damned, and its latest project, U Craft, aims to copy the premise of Minecraft, hoping that someone's parents won't know the difference between it and the real thing.

U Craft will be released sometime this Holiday Season, exclusively for the Nintendo Wii U, on the eShop. The game will make use of the GamePad for off-TV play, as well as for inventory management and creation tools.

This isn't by any means a novel initiative, and it's also not a blatant rip-off. In the days before Minecraft made the jump to consoles, there were a lot of derivative sandbox building titles cluttering the indie channels, offering people what they wanted, a Minecraft-like experience on their favorite platform.

The fact that Minecraft isn't on the 3DS and Wii U yet is weird to put it mildly, as the game seems a bespoke match for Nintendo's platforms. However, the Japanese corporation's reluctance to initiate contact with the owners of Minecraft might be addressed in the near future by Microsoft, that recently acquired the entire thing.
