After 12 seasons, CBS’ once-immensely popular sitcom “Two and a Half Men” will end its run. For the final season, writers have prepared various adventures for Walden (Ashton Kutcher) and Alan (Jon Cryer), including a fake gay marriage that would facilitate the adoption of a child.

Indeed, CBS Entertainment chairman Nina Tassler has confirmed at the Television Critics Association press tour that the two leading men are preparing to walk down the aisle, THR confirms.

Apparently, Walden will suffer a major health scare sometime in season 12 and this, in turn, will lead to an existential crisis. He decides to adopt a child because that would give more meaning to his life, but when he initiates procedures, he realizes that being a single straight man means he doesn’t stand a chance.

“So once and for all he decides, ‘I'm going to propose to Alan and we're going to get married and adopt a child as a gay couple’,” Tassler says. It’s not like he discovers he’s gay, but rather that he plans to use this gimmick to trick the authorities into granting him the adoption.

As criticism against this plotline is already starting to be heard on Twitter (since when is gay marriage and adoption a gag, the punchline of a joke?, outraged voices are saying), Tassler believes that this plotline will be a “positive statement.”

Sure, Walden and Alan will be fake-gays for a short while but the fact that they will initiate adoption procedures as a gay couple will serve to show that they “can do that,” Tassler says.

Many on the Internet are still not convinced. Even those who aren’t vocal supporters of marriage equality see this planned development as a forced move reeking of the purest, most concentrated eau of desperation. What do you say?
