Though wireless peripherals are hardly a new occurrence on today's market, IOGEAR decided to try and experiment with some arguably new form factors when it created its two latest keyboards.

The two wireless devices in question are known as the GKM581R and the GKM571R mini keyboard.

The former has an oval shape and a slip-resistant rubber bottom, as well as a mostly black color theme, plus, of course, the necessary wireless receiver. It is meant to be held in one's lap.

The latter, the GKM571R mini keyboard, has a lid and is small enough to be handheld while including all the usual keys. It should prove most useful in even dark rooms and for such things as mobile content management (thanks to the LED backlight).

Additionally, both keyboard feature an optical trackball with up to 1,200 DPI, plus a scroll wheel, so that even the mouse functionality is included.

What's more, the newcomers are designed with the latest 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity technology and can be used with a variety of electronics.

The products that will most benefit from this are HTPCs (Home-Theater Personal Computers), HDTVs and media servers, among other things.

"By simply plugging in the included USB RF receiver, our 2.4GHz Wireless On-Lap Keyboard enables consumers to instantly navigate their preferred multimedia content from the comfort of their couch," states Bill Nguyen, director of marketing for IOGEAR.

"With advanced ergonomic design and 2.4GHz technology, this keyboard is the optimal solution for enhancing any home entertainment setup. We are proud that CEA has recognized IOGEAR’s contribution to the growing home theater accessories segment," he added.

The GKM581R has a price of $89.95, whereas the GKM571R mini keyboard, complete with the aforementioned LED backlight, sells for $99.95.

They should start selling late in the ongoing quarter, which means that availability will ramp up either later this month or in December.
