Staff at the National Aquarium in Baltimore, US has announced that, little over a month ago, a female Linnaeus's two-toed sloth living at this facility delivered a healthy baby.

The tiny sloth is the four of its kind to have ever been born at this facility, and Ivy's second offspring, keepers at the National Aquarium explain.

The baby sloth and its mom live in a zoo exhibit known as the Upland Tropical Rainforest. They spend most of their time up in trees, and sleep some 20 hours each and every day.

They are closely monitored at all times, but caretakers have not yet had the heart to interfere with their daily routine and get close enough to the baby sloth to determine its weight, or whether it is a boy or a girl, Zoo Borns tells us.

Since they are clueless about the baby sloth's gender, keepers have named it Scout. They say that this name is appropriate both for a girl and for a boy.

Commenting on the birth of this baby sloth, zoo employee Ken Howell said that, “Our team is thrilled to welcome another baby sloth to our Rain Forest habitat.”

“It is an honor to work with these incredible animals and inspire our guests to learn more about the ways they can protect them,” he added.
