Retail chain behemoth Argos has recently announced it’s going to join the tablet race, with its latest slate alternative, called simply and uninspiringly, MyTablet.

Both 7-inch slates might attract the attention of shoppers everywhere due to their attractive price ranges, but what exactly are the differences between the two? Let’s take a quick look.

Starting off with the screen, the Tesco Hudl offers a better 1440 x 900 resolution with pixel 242 ppi compared to MyTablet and its 1024 x 600 coupled with 169 ppi.

That, of course, translates into Hudl users getting a much better viewing experience in terms of sharpness and detail.

The Hudl wins in terms of battery life as well, offering up to 9 hours of video playback, which is comparable with serious brand models. MyTablet, on the other hand, will only last a meager 5 hours. Moving on, Hudl comes bundled with 16GB of storage while MyTablet cuts that in half with its 8GB. Both slates have a microSD slot allowing for extension.

In terms of power, MyTablet features a dual-core 1.6GHz processor while the Huld’s quad-core 1.5GHz processor will ensure that everything moves faster and smoother. Hudl has GPS and both slates feature Micro-USB and HDMI out.

Even if tablets aren’t the best choice when it comes to photography, we still have to note that the Hudl offers a 3-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front snapper. MyTablet loses the battle in the photo department as well, with its 2-megapixel front camera and 0.3 megapixel rear one.

The two supermarket giants have added bold coloring options to their slates. Argos chose to offer the tablets in silver and pink, while Tesco offers a more varied palette of alternatives which includes black, purple, red and blue.

It appears that the only thing that makes MyTablet stand out is the affordable £100 / $160 / €118 price range, but to be fair you don’t get much in exchange for that. The Hudl seems to have more to offer and all for a £19 / $30 / €22 difference. What will you choose?
