News from Russia says that, not too long ago, two new massive holes were discovered in remote parts of this country. Apparently, researchers are as baffled by them as they were by the first hole to show up in this part of the world.

Local media reports say that, when compared to the hole that made headlines just a few days ago, these two recently documented ones are considerably smaller, Daily Mail tells us.

Thus, the second mysterious hole thus far discovered in Siberia has a diameter of about 15 meters (approximately 50 feet). It is located in the Yamal Peninsula, not far from the village of Antipayuta in the Taz District.

The third hole was discovered in the Taymyr Peninsula, in Russia's Kransoyark region, and its diameter measures about 4 meters (roughly 13 feet). Both these newly discovered geological formations are rather deep.

Thus, the holes are estimated to extend to several dozen meters in the underground. Like the first, they have fairly steep walls, and are encircled by a buildup of ground. Hence, it is believed they were birthed by an impact or an explosion.

Despite the fact that it's been quite a while since the first such geological formation was documented in Siberia, specialists cannot say how and why these holes came into being. They are currently busy studying the phenomenon, and hope that they will soon have some answers.

One possibility is that the three holes formed as a result of a meteorite crash. Others believe that they are no more and no less than a prank. Other theories involve missiles gone haywire, explosions of methane or shale gas deposits, and even aliens.

Scientists promise to continue investigating these peculiar geological formations, and say that, as soon as they reach a consensus concerning their origin, they will share whatever information they have with the general public. Hopefully, it will not be too lung until this happens.

As reported, the first such hole discovered in Siberia measures some a little over 82 meters (some 270 feet) across. The land in its proximity and the vegetation growing on it appear undisturbed, which makes it even more difficult for scientists to make head or tail of its origin.

Because this hole sits not too far from a natural gas field, there are some who say that it was probably birthed by a massive explosion that displaced an impressive amount of dirt. However, this theory is yet to be confirmed, as are the ones pointing the finger at meteorites or aliens.

Researchers expects that soil, water, and air samples collected from within these hole and from areas close to them will help them sort out the mystery surrounding the emergence of these bizarre geological formations in remote Russia.
