The GeForce GTX Titan Ultra and a GK104/106 model may appear

One might say that NVIDIA already has a “complete” graphics card lineup, and, thus, enough of a reason to sit back and watch the show until the time comes for Maxwell to come forth.

That would mean doing nothing new for months and months, however, and NVIDIA has long since kicked the habit of staying idle for extended periods of time.

It's part of the whole IT ecosystem rule set actually: stagnate for too long and risk being left behind.

True, this could be one of those exceptions when NVIDIA won't lose much if it takes a break until Maxwell arrives in the first quarter of 2013.

After all, the GeForce GTX Titan and GTX 780 aren't likely to be threatened in terms of performance and pricing any time soon.

Nevertheless, according to Videocardz NVIDIA could launch an even better Titan board, as well as a lower end model or two.

The new top-tier board would be called GeForce GTX Titan Ultra and would have a factory overclocked GK110 chip.

Either that, or NVIDIA will release a GTX 790 dual-GPU adapter instead, with two GK110 chips. The GPUs would be slower in that case, due to power limitations, but the card would still be in a league of its own.

As for the lower-end video controllers, they would use rebranded GK104/106 graphics processing units, or maybe GK208.

NVIDIA may or may not reveal the newcomer next week, during IFA 2013. We'll know once we get there.

Even if it doesn't, the new products, if they really are on the roadmap, will reach stores before or just in time for the winter holiday shopping season.

After that, the Santa Clara, California-based company will finally be comfortable waiting until some point in the first quarter of 2014 to release the Maxwell series.
