With the rapid popularity increase of tablets in general, companies from all over the world have been making and unveiling their respective models, and Colombia has now joined that crown, as Compumax and Smart PC have revealed their respective Hyper and Smart Touch models.

As consumers likely know by now, Qualcomm Snapdragon ARM chips are no longer the only chips expected to show up as part of tablets or other mobile devices.

In fact, besides the Intel Pine Trail platform, NVIDIA's Tegra 2 SoC has proven quite the popular choice among makers of slates, because of its advanced multimedia capabilities.

Colombia has now become the site where both types of tablets, Tegra 2-based and Pine Trail-powered, have been unveiled, according to Engadget.

The slate based on NVIDIA's platform is known as Hyper and has the Tegra 2 SoC armed with a dual-core ARM Cortex A9 processor, whose clock speed is of 1GHz. It was developed by Compumax.

This product also features 512MB of RAM and 32GB of internal hard drive storage while being loaded with the Android operating system.

The second tablet, the Smart Touch, was unveiled by Smart PC and has specifications more or less akin to those of a netbook, being built around the Intel Atom N450 processor.

This mobile gadget features 2GB of Ram, a hard disk drive of 320GB, a DVD writer, a folding stand, two USB ports and a multitouch screen.

As one would expect, the Smart Touch is loaded with the Windows 7 operating system, and this may have something to do with the fairly good responsiveness of the multitouch input that Engadget mentions.

Both slates have a screen size of 10 inches. The Smart Touch should start selling in Peru next month, for about $608, whereas the Hyper is, supposedly, already on sale, for $387.
