Immediately after announcing the updated kernel for Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail), Canonical also unveiled updated kernel packages for its Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal) operating system, a release that fixes two security issues discovered in the upstream Linux 3.5 kernel by various developers.

The first security issue is about a flaw that was discovered in the Linux kernel's dm snapshot facility and could allow a remote authenticated user to modify or corrupt data, as well as to obtain sensitive information. The second security issue was discovered by Hannes Frederic Sowa, and it’s about a flaw in the Linux kernel's UDP Fragmentation Offload (UFO), which could allow an unprivileged local user to cause a DoS (Denial of Service) attack or gain administrative privileges.

These security flaws can be fixed if you upgrade your Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal) system(s) to the linux-image-3.5.0-44 (3.5.0-44.67) package(s). To apply the update, run the Update Manager application or follow these instructions: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Security/Upgrades. Don't forget to reboot your computer after the upgrade!
