Seeing that, today, most people are interested in movies like 'You, Me and Dupree' (which could only be called 'light' comedies, so as not to use another more harsh term) and 'Epic Movie' (a film so bad that it's hard even to categorize it - but 'dreadful spoof' and 'waste of time' would serve us good), it's no wonder that a feature film so shocking and brutal like 'Hitler Meets Christ' is overlooked.
I say 'brutal', but you shouldn't take it literally. Focusing on getting together two of the biggest figures in history, one evil and one good, newcomer director Brendan Keown created what it looks at first sight a beautiful piece of art. The movie is based on a script and on a play penned by Golden Globe and Emmy-winning actor Michael Moriarty and will premiere at the 17th Annual Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, California.
The plot revolves around two men that meet by pure chance, only to discover that they are the reborn souls of Jesus and Adolf Hitler. They are two confronting and opposite personalities, who both have to learn to know each other, but the conclusion can be only one: one is the embodiment of good, while the other is evil. Aside from the polarity presented by the two main characters, the reborn Hitler is also faced with an inner conflict: having to live with the thought of his past crimes.
This is how the man who brought Hitler and Christ back to life, putting them in opposite corners, explains the plotline: 'It ultimately comes down to good and evil. And the two greatest, most polar opposites of good and evil are Jesus of Nazareth and Adolf Hitler of Germany... It's a comedy in as much as it allows the audience to laugh at Hitler, and it's a tragedy in that he's really a poor homeless man trapped and imprisoned by the soul of Hitler.'
Shot in the bleakest neighborhoods of Vancouver, Canada, 'Hitler Meets Jesus' premieres on Friday, March 2nd. The Cinequest Film Festival runs from February 28 to March 11. The trailer for the movie is
