14 DAY TRIAL // The 802.11ac wireless connectivity standard is the latest specification published by the Wi-Fi alliance and enables a significant transfer speed over the air. That's why so many single- and dual-band routers have been coming out lately.
The AirStation Extreme AC 1200 Gigabit Simultaneous Dual Band Wireless Router WZR-1166DHP and the AirStation Extreme AC 1750 Gigabit Simultaneous Dual Band Wireless Router WZR-1750DHP are the latest newcomers.
The latter isn't available yet, and will only come out later this month (July 2013). Its price will be of $149.99 / €117.38 – 149.99.
"With each new wireless gadget in the home and increasing online activities vying for bandwidth, consumers push the boundaries of their wireless networks on a daily basis," said Matt Dargis, vice president of sales at Buffalo Technology (USA), Inc.
"We designed Buffalo's new AirStation Extreme 11ac routers to meet these networking demands, providing high performance, feature packed Wi-Fi, ideal for the digital driven lifestyle."
Obviously, the WZR-1750DHP has a total transfer speed of 1,750 Mbps, divided among the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz spectrums.
The AirStation Extreme AC 1200 Gigabit Dual Band Wireless Router WZR-1166DHP reaches 1200 Mbps in a similar manner.
That means the former is the stronger of the two and, thus, more expensive. Sales are already underway actually, for $169.99 / €132.89.
In any event, streaming HD video, music, online gaming and sustained communications with more than one smartphone and/or tablet should be easy to handle for both.
Buffalo even ships the two products with software whose special interface allows consumers to manage the network and optimize bandwidth usage according to scenarios.
On a related note, in addition to the two routers, Buffalo has released the AirStation AC866 Dual Band Wireless USB Adapter WI-U2-866D, which connects a computer or laptop to an existing wireless network or hot spot. It is already selling for $54.99 / €43.03.
