Finding a 100-pound, 8-ounce (45.6-kg) carp is a record-breaking, once-in-a-lifetime catch that most anglers only dream of.

Having the carp turn up and get reeled in by two different fisherman on the same week, that's just odd.

After Colin Smith (left) bagged the major catch in Etang La Saussaie, France, a second angler found it again, less than a week later.

The two men fished the carp out of the same private lake in the Champagne region. John Thorpe will not be benefiting from his lucky find, though, as Smith has filed for a world record.

The International Game Fish Association is reviewing his entry as we speak. The last record title holder only weighed 75 pounds, 11 ounces (34.4 kg) and it was also bagged in France in 1987.

“The fish’s first capture was recorded in 2003 at 42 pounds (19 kg) and has gained an average of just under six pounds (2.7 kg) every year to date,” Phil Gregory of Carpe France tells Grind TV, disappointing everyone even more by adding that the carp gets caught on a yearly basis.
