Twitter’s latest revenue generating experiment, the Earlybird account, is off the ground with a special offer for Disney’s latest summer blockbuster movie, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. US viewers will be able to get two tickets for the price of one by using a special promotional code revealed on Earlybird. It’s not exactly the deal of the century but it gets the ball moving and Twitter says new offers should be coming a few times a week.

“Today, we’re excited to launch the first @earlybird Exclusive Offer, in partnership with The Walt Disney Studios. For a limited time, @earlybird followers in the U.S. can get a special deal on tickets for ‘The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’,” Twitter announced in a blog post.

“Several times a week, @earlybird will help consumers discover Twitter-exclusive deals in entertainment, fashion, technology, beauty, travel and more. These deals will come directly from our advertising partners and from other companies (including Groupon and Gilt Groupe) that already deliver valuable deals to consumers via Twitter,” the post continued.

Twitters first Earlybird deal hasn’t been greatly received by some due to the fact that The Sorcerer’s Apprentice has been getting some horrible reviews so far. But it’s a deal with a major Hollywood studio and the second time Disney has experimented with Twitter, having bought the first Promoted Trend for Toy Story 3.

And the Earlybird account already has over 50,000 followers, with most having started following the account before the first deal landed. If Twitter can keep people interested, the number of followers should be rising quickly. Twitter says a lot more deals are coming, from diverse fields, so there should be something for everyone.

Also interesting are the partnerships with Groupon and Gilt, both deal sites with which Earlybird could be competing against. Instead, the two are getting another avenue to showcase their deals and one with a rather wide reach from the looks of it.
