Twitter continues to come off as a bully who doesn't care about the developers that helped it become what it is today and it doesn't seem like it actually cares.
In the midst of a controversial campaign to push off developers and apps that would take people away from the site, where they can be monetized, Twitter has rolled out a "Certified Products"
program which hands out badges to the apps and services that make Twitter better (and don't cut into its revenue).
This new cool club of third-party Twitter developers is notably but understandably lacking something, client apps. Sure, there's Hootsuite, which enables users to read their Twitter stream, in there, but Hootsuite is a business tool at heart.
In fact, that's the big message, all of the tools that are at the moment part of the Certified Products program are business tools. They provide big data analysis, tap into Twitter for all sorts of things, but don't take away anything, they just ad value. Just like Twitter wants it.
