A new version of Twitter for BackBerry mobile application is now available for download, namely Twitter for BlackBerry smartphones v1.1, which was put on download through BlackBerry Beta Zone.

According to the development team behind the application, the new release comes with enhancements like Geotagging Tweets, Push @Mentions, Chat-Style Messages, #Topic Autocomplete and more.

Moreover, the new release of the mobile software comes with updated graphics throughout the app, which would reflect the new look of the Twitter brand.

The new Geotagging functionality on Twitter for BlackBerry smartphones was meant to offer users the possibility to add their geographical location to Tweets.

“Geotags provide valuable context to your Tweets, as it allows others to see what location you’ve tweeted from. You can enable this feature in the Options menu, as it is turned off by default,” a recent post on the BlackBerry Blog reads.

“Now when you’re mentioned on Twitter, you’ll immediately receive a notification on your BlackBerry smartphone through the use of BlackBerry Push technology,” the said post continues.

Users would have the possibility to control whether to be notified when anyone mentions their name, or just when followers make the mentioning.

“With Push @Mentions, you’ll know who is talking about you or to you, so you can continue the conversation as it happens,” the blog post continues.

The new version of the application has Direct Messages to Messages renamed, so as to be in line with the new online Twitter experience. The interface was modified as well, now with a chat-style layout.

And there is also the #Topic Autocomplete feature, meant to pop up a list of keywords starting from the previous hashtagged words in Tweets, or Retweets, or those which the user selected or searched for in Popular Topics, as well as other applications, including like Facebook for BlackBerry smartphones.

“Many of these new features have been added based on your suggestions, so we’d like to thank you for helping us to continually improve our app. To try out Twitter for BlackBerry smartphones v1.1, sign up to become a BlackBerry Beta Zone user if you haven’t already, and let us know what you think,” the said blog post concludes.
