It focuses on improving the TweetDeck web experience

Twitter has decided to shift focus away from the old TweetDeck AIR and intensify instead the development for the web version of the application.

Mind that this does not mean they are discontinuing the current application for desktop (Windows, Mac), which will continue to be improved with new capabilities, but not ahead of the web and Chrome apps.

This call comes after 8 months of effort poured into the Chrome app and the web application for modern browsers, which received plenty of enhancements leading users to migrate to these solutions.

Another reason for this action is retiring the Twitter API 1.0, which is at the base of TweetDeck AIR as well as the mobile apps (Android and iOS), so these versions have the same end.

As a result of this decision, users of the old TweetDeck AIR app will experience outages over the next two months before any effort in supporting them is discontinued.
