Twitter is going to launch an office in Indonesia soon, a place that is considered to be the “social media capital of the world.”

The microblogging platform has about 20 million active users in Indonesia, which makes it a good place to be for the company.

Adam Bain, Twitter’s global president of revenue and partnerships, told The Wall Street Journal that the office to be opened in Indonesia in the next three to six months would be based in Jakarta and would house sales and business development teams.

This is the second office Twitter opened in Southeast Asia after last year’s inauguration of the Singapore headquarters. That one, however, mainly deals with regional sales. The company also has offices in Seoul, Tokyo and Sydney.

“You look at Indonesia and you see the size of the audience there and how they're using Twitter, and it's super-invigorating. Overall it will be a pretty cross-functional office for us in terms of the roles of the people inside the office and the different specialties that the team has,” Bain said.

Of course, this all falls in line with Twitter’s overall growth plans. The company has been looking for months for ways to expand and to reach new audiences, hoping to attract new users.

Following its introduction at the stock market, Twitter has been trying to alleviate investor fears that its growth pattern isn’t strong enough. Of course, since the social network targets a slightly different user base than Facebook does, no one can expect for Twitter to grow at the same rate.

Even so, Twitter has been growing at a steady pace. At the end of the second quarter in 2013, the company had 218 million users, which has grown to 271 million at the end of the same quarter in 2014.

Emerging markets like Indonesia are growing fast and they’ve become essential for companies such as Twitter that try to expand and increase their user numbers and their revenues from advertising.

The Wall Street Journal mentions that analysts estimate that Indonesia is one of the largest markets for Twitter with some 20 million active users. There are some 240 million people in the country, about half of whom are under the age of 30, an age group that makes most of Twitter’s user base.

The network follows in the footsteps of Facebook, who also opened an office in Jakarta in March. The social network has nearly 70 million users in the country.
