Twitter has gathered some of the most interesting and heartwarming stories

Twitter has debuted a new site, Twitter Stories, which aims to highlight some of the most interesting or heartwarming things that happened on or via the site. There are some quite interesting stories in there, usually rather short, perhaps to keep in tune with the nature of Twitter.

For now, there are just under 20 of these stories, but you can submit your own if you have Twitter to thank for something.

"Today we’re launching the first in a series of Twitter stories," Twitter announced.

"Read about a single Tweet that helped save a bookstore from going out of business; an athlete who took a hundred of his followers out to a crab dinner; and, Japanese fishermen who use Twitter to sell their catch before returning to shore," it said.

"Each story reminds us of the humanity behind Tweets that make the world smaller," it added.

Most stories focus on the rather random way in which tweets can connect two people or how just a simple tweet can be spread and seen by millions.

For example, in one story, Mark Slavonia tweeted about how he failed to ride up the Waipio Valley Road in Hawaii, dubbed the steepest road in the world.

By chance, Lance Armstrong replied to the tweet asking for more information. To this Mark replied that he'll donate $10,000 to the Lance Armstrong Foundation if Lance would be able to ride it. One year later, he did just that.

You can check out more at the site itself. And if you have your own story that you think may be worthy of being included, you can submit it and maybe have it included on the page.

"Submit your story by mentioning @twitterstories or by using the hashtag #twitterstories. Include a link to a photo or video that helps illustrate your story to the world. Each month we’ll curate a selection of profiles to share," Twitter explained.
